Meet the Needs of the Poor

Matthew 25:34-40

"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Enter, you who are blessed by my Father! Take what's coming to you in this kingdom. It's been ready for you since the world's foundation. And here's why:
I was hungry and you fed me,
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink,
I was homeless and you gave me a room,
I was shivering and you gave me clothes,
I was sick and you stopped to visit,
I was in prison and you came to me.'

"Then those 'sheep' are going to say, 'Master, what are you talking about? When did we ever see you hungry and feed you, thirsty and give you a drink? And when did we ever see you sick or in prison and come to you?' 40 Then the King will say, 'I'm telling the solemn truth: Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me — you did it to me.'

Members of The Vine are passionate about meeting the practical needs of people where ever they are able too, and the members are generous people, following in the footsteps of their Lord.

Jesus in the passage above commends us to meet the peoples practical needs, and the rest of the New Testament has a strong emphasis on social action towards the poor.

We have a number of projects we focus on as a fellowship including:-

Compassion - Sponsor a Child and their other activities. In the past year we have raised over £400 for this charity. We have also decided to sponsor one child, as a fellowship, Zoe & Josh will be the contact point and we will keep the church informed and send letters from the church via Zoe.

Food Hampers for the less fortunate in our community - Delivered to those locally in need at Christmas time. In the past year we raised approximately £250 for this work.

We will also make small steps towards starting a larger food project next year subject to our growth in resources, by aiming to give out some food hampers at Harvest Festival time. Rhoda will receive contributions of tinned products, chocolates, biscuits etc which have suitable best before dates. So why not put an extra item in your shopping trolley for somebody less fortunate than you? See the great food giveaway at Harvest Time.

In addition we have members who individually sponsor children through Compassion, act as advocates for Compassion, feed the homeless through links with another church in Penzance, will be going on mission to the Ukraine in September this year, but to name a few.

One of our longer term aims is to set up a food project where we can regularly distribute food parcels to the less fortunate in our communities, and those going through difficult times. If you wish to donate or be involved contact us via the link below.

We want to do a lot more, and if you wish to join us in reaching out in these areas please contact us.
